Elon Musk and President Trump's efforts to slash USAID, if not close it down permanently, will end millions of dollars earmarked for women's economic empowerment worldwide. The Women's Global Development and Prosperity Initiative was created to positively impact 50 million women on their path to economic stability and independence. Ironically, this effort was Ivanka Trump's pet project during her father's first term in office. She was focused on developing the potential of women in STEM and women in the workplace and society generally. This program intended to increase women's access to the internet and even mobile phones. One program official said that the lack of funds won't just prevent women's access to technology, but that the ability of entire communities "to move out of poverty is really going to be slowed down or compromised." As I've said on early bog posts, lifting up women in society, lifts children and ultimately their communities as a whole - in education and economic stability.
