Grant applications to the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health are being flagged if they contain certain trigger words like "female," "historically" and "male-dominated." Federal agencies trying to comply with recent executive orders to immediately "eliminate support for diversity equity and inclusion efforts" are determining applications with these words alone are in violation of President Trump's orders.
Applications that purport to support DEI or gender ideology are denied. Similarly, all current NSF and NIH projects are under review to determine if funding is being spent on research that violates the executive orders. These broad orders are detrimentally affecting research into women's health matters. Arguably, women's health issues are distinct and cannot be included in health research projects related to men. Refusing to research medical issues because they affect women means women's health issues are not being addressed. In short, women's health is not worth studying and not worthy of attention. I cannot think of another more blantant way to treat women as second class citizens.
