After a popular TEDx talk of the same name and on this same subject, Adichie put her thoughts down and wrote this exquisite book in an effort to inspire others to consider gender studies!

Her biography highlights how the world should strive for gender equality specifically and not just human rights as an umbrella concept. She argues that men and women need to embrace the concept of feminism – which is as broad and simple as recognizing there is a discrepancy between men and women that benefits men and negatively affects women. After recognizing the imbalance of power and oportunity, we need to fix it. She explains that real feminists do not hate men or want them to be denegrated. True feminists want to be on the same level with the same opportunities as men – no better and no worse.

She tells her stories from a Nigerian female perspective but explains the concept of gender equality applies to all races and ethnicities across the globe. Read her book! If you don’t have time, then check out her TEDx talk.
