The Women’s Global Empowerment Fund works to provide women economic, social and political programs that support women and families and create communities of continued support. This grassroots effort in Northern Uganda has been able to reduce poverty there by helping women start businesses and earn an income. https://wgefund.org
The women are taught microfinance which encourages them to make opportunities for income, which in turn creates a better future for them and their families. The success of these women in the Gulu market selling their products, produce, animals, etc., has rebuilt their community. The women put together a detailed business plan and they are awarded microcredit loans. They learn about loan re-payment and capitalism and their lives are forever changed.
This is a great organization that you may have inadvertently supported! If you've seen those beautiful handmade bracelets from Uganga, there is a high likelihood that effort was funded by a WGE loan. I am excited to see this program spread to other parts of the world that need it. The success is undeniable and it proves that increasing opportunities for women to thrive changes the lives of everyone she touches.
